THE SEMINAR

THEORY OF DUALITY

DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICAL METHODS IN PHYSICS

On the 12th of October 2017, at 10:15 a.m.

Tomasz Krajewski (IFT WFUW)

will give a talk on

"Inflation, the Higgs and domain walls"

Abstract
The discovery of the Higgs boson at the LHC extended our knowledge on the behaviour of the Standard Model. The measurement of the mass of the new particle enabled the quantitative study of the scalar potential of the Standard Model. Understanding of implications of the existence of the scalar boson for both: particle physics and cosmology has been the goal of many efforts in recent years.

During the seminar, I will show what connects these three: inflationary models, the Higgs boson and comological domain walls. Weaknesses of the standard cosmology and advantages of inflation will be discussed. The current status of the Higgs physics will be briefly presented. Furthermore, I will describe the role of domain walls in cosmology. Finally, I will introduce methods used to investigate the evolution of cosmological domain walls of the Higgs field.

The seminar takes place on Thursdays from 10:15 a.m. to 12:00 in the room 2.23 of the main building of the Faculty of Physics (the 2nd floor), Pasteur Str. 5, Warszawa.
