THE SEMINAR

THEORY OF DUALITY

DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICAL METHODS IN PHYSICS

On the 10th of November 2016, at 10:15 a.m.

Michał Bejger (CAMK)

will give a talk on

''Direct detection of gravitational waves. Detection principle and astrophysical sources.''

Abstract
Recent direct detections of gravitational waves herald a new era in the observational astronomy and experimental verifications of the theories of gravity. I will talk about the principles of detection of gravitational waves, the current state-of-art laser interferometric detectors (LIGO/Virgo) and the most promising astrophysical sources of gravitational waves.

The seminar takes place on Thursdays from 10:15 a.m. to 12:00 in the room 2.23 of the main building of the Faculty of Physics (the 2nd floor), Pasteur Str. 5, Warszawa.
