Example of a streak camera image (measured in MPI FKF, Stuttgart).

Isointensity plot of spectrally and temporally resolved photoluminescence of an InAs/GaAs structur with quantum dots measured with a streak-camera, at T = 10 K:

The image is presented in logarithmic scale in order to show weak features.

Some physical observations:

  1. The quantum dots band is visible between 1.33 eV and 1.48 eV. The high-energy wing of this band is due to excited states and it decays very fast. The low-energy wing (the ground states) has long lifetime (about 300 ps).
  2. GaAs free-electron to carbon acceptor transition is at 1.49 eV,
  3. Sharp excitonic lines of the GaAs barrier are at 1.51 eV,
