Please remember that the free software originated from the idea of
Richard Stallman and a large
number of system utilities come from
the GNU project.
It is not true that Linux is an "operating system written
by Linus Torvalds from scratch". Linux is a kernel. Please
read more.
The Slackware
distribution of GNU/Linux is due to Patrick Volkerding.
Its port to 64bit PC CPUs (slamd64
is due to Fred Emmott.)
Disclaimer
This text is provided "as is" in the hope that it will be useful.
I am not responsible for any damages that the use of this text
might cause.
To take things seriously: I know as much about this system,
as to proudly call myself "an experienced user". And nothing more.
I think that helping people and sharing knowledge/experience
is a good thing. I will be glad if this helps you. If it does not,
try 'easier' GNU/Linux distributions (like Ubuntu).
Warning,
This text is not up to date—now
I'm using slamd64 (unofficial
port of Slackware to 64-bit CPUs, thanks to Fred Emmott.)
The reason I decided not to update the
entire text is that some links point to this page as one describing
the installation of Slackware, not slamd64. Sorry for the inconvenience.
The kernel-hardware issues/problems may have been resolved but I simply
don't have time to track all the changes.
1522LMi:

If you need help,
feel free to ask me questions about Linux on Aspire 1520,
or request some config files for kernel (currently 2.6.22)
or init scripts.
