Decay of 6He

Results from the experiment made at CERN-ISOLDE (IS505) in August 2012. The goal was to measure the very weak decay branch of 6He into an alpha particle and a deuteron and reconstruct their energy spectrum at low energies, below 400 keV (CM). The bunches of 6He ions, accelerated to 3 MeV/u by REX-Isolde, were implanted into the OTPC chamber. The counting gas was 98% He + 2% N2. After implantation, the decays were recorded for about 800 ms.
