Jacek Pliszka's page about AT76C510 Aps
Linux software for AT76C510 and similar devices
List of devices with descriptions
AT76C510 was a quite successfull cheap chipset for APs. Products based on it are:
SMC 2655W (FCC ID: LLM 0102WA3001A) v1 (for version 2 see below)
- ATMEL AT76C510 device:
disasseble the device to get access to two MCX connectors.
AP has hole in the middle while it is the most external.
So you ned antenna cable with wire in the middle and the connector is not
most external.
In general it is identical to Linksys WAP11 with 4 differences:
it looks different,it has MCX antenna connectors, not RP-TNC,
it does not have USB port - all config is via Ethernet,
it has Power-over-ethernet in the Intel/Symbol/Orinoco standard.
For details look here.
Connect all four: blue, whiet-blue, brown and white-brown as it will
lower the resistance. However all functions and interoperability
is as WAP11. Power adapter: 110-240V. Hint from Neo:
if you have WAP11 v1.4 which uses just one antenna - you can disassemble
WAP11 and take out MCX-RP-TNC pigtail from inside and use it for
your SMC 2655W !!!
Addtron AWS-110 (FCC: PD5-LMWS120)
- this is another ATMEL AT76C510 device.
WAP11 firmware and utils work fine with it - it works as cAP as well.
Differences to WAP11 : no antenna connectors : antennas are soldered
to the board. Also power supply is heavy and bulky and only for 110V.
Installing SmartBridge firmware on AT76C510
I HAVEN't DONE IT IN A LONG TIME AND ALL RECENT REPORTS ABOUT
PROCEDURE BELOW WERE NEGATIVE!!!
THIS IS HIGHLY EXPERIMENTAL!!! IN MOST CASES IT WON'T WORK
This was done on Belkin F5D6130. If you do it - you do at your
own responsibility. I had very limited functionality after this procedure
Remember !!! DO NOT USE recovery.exe from SmartBridges!!! It kills
non-SB Aps completely !!!
It DOES NOT REALLY WORK !!! AND IT MOST LIKELY WILL LEAVE YOU WITH AP
WITH SB FIRMWARE NOT FULLY WORKING!!! ONLY A FEW FIRMWARES FOR SOME PRODUCTS WORK
-
Download and install ATMEL SNMP fotware, for example from here:
http://www.andrewhakman.dhs.org/wap11/atmel_config/SNMPV1743.exe - link is from this page:
http://www.seattlewireless.net/index.cgi/Wap11Hack.
There exists newer version (1748) but it may not allow changing hardware MAC
- Some suggest to change the password for the AP - best with ap-utils,
all 3 passwords have to be different
- Find snmpmanager.ini (C:/windows or similar) and change values to AppMode=2 AppView=2
-
Connect to the AP with the software and in
Setup->HArdware->Configuration change MAC to
one from SmartBridges pool 00:30:1A:09:xx:xx (I used 00 30 1A 09 82 E1 ,
a coleague suggested 00301A00 )
- not all MACs work!!! Be sure you do not have 2 identical MACs on your network!!!
Also sometimes AP is not found for the first time - try again.
If you can not do it - unistall all AP software from Windows and
install 1743 again - there has been report that people had such a problem.
- Install SmartBrides software from here:
http://www.smartbridges.com/web/support/app.asp - 1.7 with
1.4k1 is confirmed to work - SB soft does not work with it but original one/ap-utils do. Alternatiwve is airBridge firmware - then soft works.
- After loading the firmware AP dies - this is because the reset convention
in AP has changed - Belkin has reset when button pressed and reset line is
shortened to the
ground. You have to change into active when shortened to ground.
For test you can simply keep the reset button on the Belkin pressed all the time.
- Now SB program does not work with AP but the original utilities from ATMEL
and ap-utils do
- Remember !!! DO NOT USE recovery.exe from SmartBridges!!! It kills
non-SB Aps completely !!!
- Final notes: LEDs are switched now: ethernet is power and power is ethernet.
