I bough a cheap D-link DWL-500 v. J3. Initially it did not work at all
neither in Linux nor in Windows 98. But then I tried it in Windows XP Pro
the card did work so I went back to Linux. After many tries
this is the config that worked for me:
- Red Hat 9
- kernel 2.4.23-rc2
- hostap-driver-0.1.2
I used 2.4.20 kernel patch from it and
copied the files from hostap directory to the kernel directory
and compiled into the kernel (did not work otherwise). Then I had
to remove /lib/modules/2.4.23-rc2/pcmcia as it confused
/etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia script. My /etc/sysconfig/pcmcia is the following:
PCMCIA=yes
PCIC=yenta_socket
PCIC_OPTS=
CORE_OPTS=
CARDMGR_OPTS=-f
