Much of the information in this section comes from the
Ethical Consumer Research Association
(see also
Investor Responsibility Research Center
).
The full information they provide is not on-line, but one can
subscribe to their bi-monthly magazine. Additionally, they published a book
"The Ethical Consumer Guide to Everyday Shopping," which handles many
aspects of the ethical shopping. (See also
"Shopping Guide for Caring Consumers 1999:
A Guide to Products That Are Not Tested on Animals"
and
Quick Guide to Ethical Shopping
which includes the e-mail subscription to the ethical shopping list.)
The Internet resources on the ethical shopping issue are gigantic.
One can always use a Netscape search engine
to investigate a particular topic before deciding on an investment or
where to open a bank account.
To find out about sweatshops, how to fight them and how to shop to avoid them,
see
Ethical Consumer Guide
for a variety of products (tea and coffee included).
Please bear in mind that
the on-line information to aid the ethical shopping is sometimes followed by
or provided together with some controversial material which I do not endorse.
(For an interesting study of boycott effects, see
James Towell.)
