11:15 | Wykład prof. D. H. Davisa (University College London): 50 Years of Strange Nuclear Physics |
The discovery, 50 years ago in Warsaw, of the first hypernucleus. The formation of the European K Collaboration and its work on hypernuclear physics from 1961 to 1976. Double hypernuclei, containing two bound lambda hyperons, also in Warsaw and already 40 years ago, the hypothetical H particle and the doubts it generated, the reanalysis of the old events and finally the latest results from both counter and hybrid emulsion experiments.
12:00 | Wykład prof. J. Sactona (Université Libre de Bruxelles): The use of nuclear emulsion in complex detectors for charm, beauty and neutrino physics |
An historical survey is given of the continued use of nuclear emulsion in
hybrid detector systems for particle physics research. It includes:
i) pioneering work and some original results in charm and beauty physics, ii) direct observation of the tau-neutrino, iii) searches for neutrino oscillations.
