Zdzisław Szymański Prize for the year 2003

The Prize for the year 2003 consists of a scientific stipend of PLN 8000. In order to further support scientific activity of the winner, the agreement between Polish nuclear physics laboratories and the French IN2P3 will award him or her with an additional scientific stipend that will cover a ten-day stay in one of the French IN2P3 laboratories, selected by the winner (including travel expenses). The visit should take place in the academic year of 2004/2005.

The Selection Committee of the Zdzisław Szymański Prize at the meeting held on May 26, 2004, after a thorough evaluation of candidates has decided to nominate

dr hab. Marek Pfützner
from University of Warsaw

for his discovery of the two-proton decay and research concerning isomerism in nuclei far from stability

The Diploma of the Prize for the year 2003 has been awarded at a gala ceremony during the International Symposium Atomic nuclei at extreme values of temperature, spin and isospin, XXXIX Zakopane School of Physics, which was held in Zakopane, Poland, August 31 – September 5, 2004. Within a special session, the laureate gave an invited lecture concerning his scientific research.
