Zdzisław Szymański Prize for the year 2004

The Prize for the year 2004 consists of a scientific stipend of PLN 10000. In order to further support scientific activity of the winner, the agreement between Polish nuclear physics laboratories and the French IN2P3 will award him or her with an additional scientific stipend that will cover a one-week stay in one of the French IN2P3 laboratories, selected by the winner (including travel expenses). The visit should take place in the academic year of 2005/2006.

dr hab. Bogdan Fornal
from Institute of Nuclear Physics in Kraków

for his studies of neutron-rich nuclei excited in deep-inelastic heavy-ion collisions, and in particular for his discovery of the neutron N=32 magic gap

The Diploma of the Prize for the year 2004 was awarded at a gala ceremony during the XXIX Mazurian Lakes Conference on Physics Nuclear Physics and the Fundamental Processes, which took place in Piaski, Poland, August 30 &ndash September 6, 2005. Within a special session, the laureate gave an invited lecture concerning his scientific research : Evolution of Shell Structure in the Neutron-Rich Nuclei above 48Ca.
