Hands on CERN contains a lot of information about the world of particles, a world unfamiliar to most of us. Even if we have difficulties to "see" the particles and the interior of matter, they can be explored with modern detectors at some specialised laboratories. Here you will be confronted with many new words such as quarks, leptons, accelerators and detectors. It can take a while to get familiar with all of them. There are essentially two ways to use this material. Either you scan through the different pages and images just to get a glimpse of how the interior of matter can be explored, without having the ambition to understand all of it or you take your time alternatively looking at the particle collisions and studying the background material.
