Conclusion

The statistical properties of matching pursuit parametrization in structured dictionaries result from complicated interactions between the properties of the decomposed signal and the structure of the applied dictionary. Bias-free parametrization can be obtained by hereby proposed MP with stochastic dictionaries. Our experience indicates that this approach yields a high-resolution, robust and reliable procedure. However, lacking a priori knowledge of the dictionary's structure makes numerical optimization difficult, in contrast to MP in structured dictionaries.

An implementation of the algorithm described in section II is available from http://brain.fuw.edu.pl/~mp.
