„Heavy ion accelerators for energy generation? – Status and Perspectives of Inertial Fusion”
prelegent: prof. Rudolf Bock (GSI - Darmstandt)
Streszczenie: For future energy generation by inertial confinement fusion the heavy ion accelerator is the most promising driver candidate. Activities in Germany started out more than ten years ago with a conceptual design study for a reactor facility, HIBALL, and with related investigations on key issues in the field of driver and target physics. The heavy ion synchrotron and cooler ring facility SIS/ESR which is in operation at GSI will allow studies on fundamental problems in areas of high-intensity beam dynamics and beam-target interaction. In addition it opens a new domain of research, the generation and investigation of dense plasmas and their interaction with ion beams. In collaboration with other European laboratories advanced accelerator scenarios are being investigated. A European Study Group is proposed for the elaboration of a conceptual design for an accelerator facility which should archieve ingnition.
