Opowiem o podstawach i najważniejszych wynikach teorii Tomity-Takesakiego. Omówię wierne stany normalne, stowarzyszone z nimi operatory modularne, twierdzenie Tomity o istnieniu grupy modularnej i warunek KMS. Jeśli czas pozwoli wspomnę także o kocyklach Connesa i homomorfizmie modularnym.

I will present the basic notions and first results of the Tomita-Takesaki theory. I will discuss normal faithful states, the associated modular operators, Tomita's theorem on the existence of the modular group and the KMS condition. If time permits I will also venture into Connes cocycles and the modular homomorphism.

I will discuss the proof of uniqueness of representation of the Weyl commutation relations (arising from Heisenberg relations) based on the theory of representations of Banach algebras.
